Living Arts Project - Arts in Education 2014-15

September 2015
The Arts Department of Wexford County Council in partnership with Wexford Arts Centre and the Arts Council are excited to announce this year’s successful applicants - artists and school– due to take part in this innovative and progressive visual arts programme which will continue this October.
The Living Arts Project was established in 2013 as a long term visual arts scheme designed to strengthening the ongoing partnership between the Arts Department of Wexford County Council and the Wexford Arts Centre. Central to this project is our joined belief in engaging with and furthering the understanding of the fundamentals of contemporary visual art practises, and making this even more attainable and assessable for local audiences. Bolstered by the success of previous years, the project now in its third year, aims to deliver a programme that will support not only the creativity and education of emerging to mid-career artists, but will also facilitate the development of skills and learning for participating artists and class teachers alike.
In May of this year an open call took place for interested artists and schools to submit expressions of interest to participate in the programme, and after yet another staggering response this year’s successful applicants have been confirmed and can now be announced.
John Busher will be the resident artist at Wexford Educate Together NS, Wexford Town, filmmaker Els Dietvorst will be paired with Gusserane NS, New Ross, Co. Wexford, artist Caoimhe Dunn will partner with Glynn NS, New Ross, Co. Wexford and artist Rosie O’Gorman will work with Rathnure NS, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.
An internship programme will also run alongside the artist’s residencies, offering emerging artists at the beginning their career an opportunity to work in a professional artist led environment. It also provides the schools and students with a greater opportunity for shared knowledge and experience to support the creation and mediation of contemporary art practises within the school. This strand of the project has proved to be very successful and offers a fantastic learning opportunity for these involved. Artists Tara McGinn, Tanya Tierney and Sarah Codd are interning on this year's project.
The Primary school residency will begin this October and culminate in an exhibition of work at the Wexford Arts Centre in April-May 2016.
The Arts Department of Wexford County Council and the Wexford Arts Centre would once again like to thank all the schools and artists who applied for the scheme. This project would not be possible without the support and interest of the local community and schools.
