Are you are a teenager of Junior Cert level or above? Are you interested in visual art? If you answered ‘yes’ to both of these questions and you would like to take part in an exciting project taking place over four Sundays in the Wexford Arts Centre - from 11th November to 2nd December - then this project could be for you.
The project will focus on the self portrait – but with a twist! You will be given the opportunity to learn a range of visual art processes and to develop your skills in painting, drawing and mixed media work. Under the guidance of local professional artist Oonagh Latchford, you will steer the project with your own ideas and play an integral part in coordinating an exhibition of the resulting work.
Oonagh Latchford graduated from the Wexford School of Art and Design, I.T. Carlow with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. Working on InSight, Wexford Arts Centre’s visual art education for a number of years, Oonagh has successfully delivered learning programmes for both children and adults.
This project is free to those taking part as it is funded and supported by Wexford County Council’s ‘Artist in the Community Scheme’ – a core programme strand of the Arts Department.
To apply for a place please send a letter or email outlining why you would like to be involved to Catherine Bowe, Visual Arts Manager, Wexford Arts Centre, Cornmarket, Wexford or catherine@wexfordartscentre.ie. As places are limited all interested persons must be available to attend the workshops from 12.00-4.00pm, each Sunday from 11th November to 2nd December. In addition, the project would ideally benefit those studying or aiming to study Leaving Certificate art.
Closing date for applications is Friday 21st September. Places are limited so we would urge anyone with an interest to contact us as soon as possible. For information on the ‘Artist in the Community Scheme’, please contact the Arts Department, Wexford County Council on 053 9196000 and/or arts@wexfordcoco.ie.
