We have had a great start to the Wexford Opera Fringe Festival with the launch of Palimpsest - beautiful large scale and some small scale heavily layered abstract paintings by leading Irish artist John Noel Smith who currently resides in Gorey and was also a student at St. Peter's College in the company of Colm Toibin and John Banville - so no stranger to Wexford. In our upper gallery we also launched the opening of Long journey in a short space - equally stunning delicate and cleanly composed works exploring spatial relationships and also very modestly priced works too. We have recorded some insightful talks with both artists and hope to have available soon via tablet with our invigilator and or possibly q&r code as well as linked to exhibitions. We aim to get more technology advanced to provide further insight into the wonderful contemporary art world created by these very interesting artists and enhance the experience and engagement with their work. Night and Day by Wexford based artist Oonagh Latchford is an exhibit of luscious paintings exploring light through figurative form with some interesting interpretations of nightime light reflection on iconic Wexford Bridge as subject matter as well as deliate portrait work. Also reasonably priced for an emerging artist on the rise. Pierce Turner delivered very entertaining opening speech for Mary Wallace's and Gilly Thomas's delightful mixed media and sculpture works in our annexe with music by Jennifer Byrne (our Music Artist in residency). 3epkano delivered a haunting contemporary music homage to opera with Faust and we got to listen to some 18th Century music by Luke Bradley on Square Pianos from the private monart collection that took us back to when Wexford Arts Centre would have been first built in 1760's and what might have been played in the Assembly Rooms hosted by the Brunswick Club at that time. Camross delivered some great drama and comedy with Billy the Member and Last Tango at Camross. High jinks continue in Wexford Dramas' upcoming 3 one act plays Losers, Shakespeare's a **** and Albert starting Weds 24th Oct - Sunday 28th Oct. We have a special treat when Musici Ireland representing some of the best of the Wexford Festival Opera orchestra present a recital of work by Ravel, Mozart and bruch in an intimate concert on Sunday 28th October at 2pm and Red Moon provide some haunting puppet theatre for the kids with The Saga of the Haunted Hippo following this at 4pm. Nocturne productions will serve up some scary fare with Doctor Horror's Haunted House - walk in Tours starting 2pm - 5pm on Tuesday 30th - Wednesday 31st Oct for Age 5+ and Professor Arcati's Aslyum walk in tours from 7pm - 10pm on same dates....Wexford Arts Centre will certainly be the scary place to be over Halloween...beware of the real ghosts joining in too..apparantly they do exist in Wexford Arts Centre...spot them if you can! We wish Wexford Opera Festival great opening tonight along with the Spiegeltent. Onwards and upwards! For more info on these events and upcoming events click on Events
