Hold onto to your hats because here we go again for another action-packed season of Saturday Art Club. Packed full of thought provoking and skill enhancing projects aimed at blowing the minds of our young artists. It's a mixed bag of painting, patterns and illusions, with the popular paper sculpture and origami getting revisits. Come along, hang out and create some amazing art. Be warned though, you may learn art abilities beyond the scope of mere mortals.
Saturday 4th March
Embossing with foil and string
We all like to make a good impression, don't we? Well we are going to show you how to make a lasting one with the skill of embossing. Aluminum foil, string, glue and a little imagination will get us off to a good start.
Saturday 11th March
Make and view 3D images
If I was a kid I would want to do this so much! Actually I'm an adult and I want to do this. We are going to be drawing a 3-D image and making our own cool 3-D glasses to view it with. If that wasn't enough you get to learn all the science behind it as well. Prepare to have your eyes pop out and your mind to be blown, and expect to see plenty of big kids like me trying to sneak in as well.
Saturday 18th March
Kinetic sculpture
Get moving and get yourself down to the Arts Centre this Saturday where we are going to be learning all about art and motion. We'll be checking out some cool examples before making our very own piece. It's going to be emotional.
Saturday 25th March
Wild silhouette watercolour
Ever wanted your hair to look like a Jackson Pollock style rainbow but been too afraid to commit to such a wild dye job? Well by combining silhouetting with splash art we can do it with minimal fuss and no actual hair need be touched. Intrigued? You should be.
Saturday 1st April
Paper fliers
Who hasn't made a paper airplane in their lives? Pretty standard right? Wrong! We are going to learn how to create amazing paper fliers like you've never seen before. Using some origami skills, some aerodynamics and some simple paper folding techniques we will make ninja stars, tubular fliers and more. Who knew paper could be so fun? Well...we did.
Saturday 8th April
Drawing optical illusions
You will never trust your eyes again after this class, that's a promise. We are going to look at the various forms of optical illusions and understand how our brain and eyes work in the process. Then we are going to learn to draw a couple of examples so we can show off to our friends in school. If you don't already wear glasses you might want to after this.
Saturday 15th April
Zentangles
Zen and the art of Zentangles. This is a great meditative skill to learn to increase your creativity and quiet the mind. It's not as hippy dippy as it sounds but is in fact a great way to create mesmerizing works of art and develop drawing ability through pattern creation. Come, be Zen, guaranteed you'll be doing this forever after.
Saturday 22nd April
Origami (Revisit)
You wanted it you got it. Back by popular demand we have Origami. We are going to level it up this time by making a couple of movable origami. Don't worry if you weren't here the first time around, we'll have a run through again of all the basic folds and fundamentals. Paper art at your fingertips.
Saturday 29th April
Japanese paper art
How to describe this.....hmm...it's like flat form kirigami mixed with silhouettes and symmetry. Confused? Don't be. This is visually so cool and deceptively simple. Come participate and learn about this ancient art form that's enjoying a resurgence in the East.
