Living Arts Project - Arts in Education
Primary School Taster Workshops
Wexford County Council, Wexford Arts Centre & Arts Council of Ireland
Partnership Initiative
The Arts Department of Wexford County Council and Wexford Arts Centre would like to invite schools to apply for a free taster workshop related to our Living Arts Project.
The Living Arts Project was established in 2013 to provide children with an understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. Four primary schools are selected each year to host an artist in residence over fourteen weeks. The residency prioritises the development of the artist’s own work and in turn, encourages competent engaging work from the pupils. It also offers teachers an opportunity to observe and learn creative practices for use in the classroom. The end-of-project exhibition in Wexford Arts Centre represents a selection of work produced by the participating primary schools and artists, offering pupils a chance to see their work presented in a professional gallery.
We are offering schools an opportunity to avail of a free taster workshop during the month of March. The workshop will be led by a professional visual artist and introduce class groups and teachers to specific art processes that are of interest to the school.
Selection of schools will be based on geographic location in the County and pairing the interests of the schools and the artists. To apply please download an application form below and return to catherine@wexfordartscentre.ie by 4pm Friday 3rd March.

School Tours of County Collection - Available from Autumn 2017
In addition to the taster workshops, the Arts Department of Wexford County Council are offering schools the opportunity to visit their temporary and permanent exhibitions for a tour and workshop on the artworks led by a team of professional visual artists. These tours will be available from Autumn 2017.
The County Wexford Art Collection was launched soon after the establishment of the County Arts Department in 1994. Consisting of almost 200 pieces of purchased, donated and loaned works, the collection is managed by the Arts Department in consultation with the Friends of County Wexford Art Collection. Works of major Irish and international artists including Neil Shawcross, Louis le Brocquy, Colin Davidson, Judith Pfaff and Mary Swanzy are on display as our works by local artists such as Francis Danby, Paul Funge and Paddy Lennon.
Tours and workshops of the Collection are offered to school free of charge and the Arts Department will provide a small subsidy towards bus hire.
For further information or to book a tour/workshop please contact Susan Murphy, Clerical Office, Arts Department, Wexford County Council on 053-9196441 or email susan.murphy@wexfordcoco.ie.
