THE LIONTAMER written by Ed Malone Directed by Tony McCleane-Fay Performed by County Wexford Youth TheatreSuitable for age 12+ This is a play about Stephanie Motherway and her imagination. Stephanie lives in a little cottage, down by the sea with her Mammy and Daddy. Stephanie, however, has no time for small town Ireland’s bigoted ways, choosing instead to live her life through her imagination along with her lion (James), and dreams of being a lion tamer. A violent altercation with the local priest who tries to ahem… ‘tame her’ leads to our heroine running away to America, where her dream comes true and she becomes a Lion Tamer. Sadly, the dream turns into a nightmare and things go from bad to worse. The Liontamer is a comic adult fairy tale and features fifty-eight characters (including Oprah, Cyndi Lauper, Ed Sheeran and Boris Johnson, with Cillian Murphy and Margot Robbie as two police dogs) played by twelve actors. Its Father Ted meets Willy Wonka, its fast and furious and hilariously funny. A wonderful antidote to the January blues!
