13°
BA Fine Art Graduate Exhibition

Wexford Campus School of Art and Design (IT Carlow)

Exhibition Opening: Thursday 22nd May, 6pm
Opening Speaker: Kenneth Hay, Chair of Contemporary Art Practice, University of Leeds

Wexford Arts Centre in partnership with Wexford School of Art and Design (IT Carlow) are delighted to once again host the annual exhibition of graduating students work in a dynamic new show entitled 13°.

Since 2010, the Arts Centre has played host to the work of the B.A. Honours Fine Art Graduates from the Wexford Campus School of Art, continuing its role supporting emerging contemporary artists within the community. Having spent the past four years applying themselves to the process of making art, investigating and researching the world around them and discovering their own creative paths along the way, this exhibition is the threshold on which the student and professional artist diverge. An annual highlight of the arts calendar for the south east, the exhibition celebrates the accomplishments of the graduating students and showcases the diverse range of work produced across the Campus’ undergraduate fine art programmes.

Graduate shows are invariably challenging, dynamic and fresh and 13̊ promises to be no exception. Exploring many prevailing subjects, such as empty buildings, exclusion and oppression, motherhood, separation from family, modern communications, as well as more specific subjects such as science fiction and what future generations will make of the ruins we leave behind, this collection of work doesn’t shy away from the topics and themes that dominate our own thoughts and feelings in everyday reality. The use of digital media, installation, and more traditional processes such as drawing and painting encourages the observer to assess and consider each piece in isolation, while remaining aware that 13̊ is a cumulative, as well as personal exposition.

Given the strength of this combined show, the class of 2014 have a very strong foundation to underpin their professional development in the years ahead.

Featuring work by Thomas Anderson, Ciaran Byrne, Michael Carty, Maura Condren, Jenny Foley, Indrija Janeliunaite, Sean Kehoe, Caroline Martin, Sinead Meehan, Laurence O’Toole, Pavlina Kubelkova, Nancy Rochford-Flynn and Michael White, 13° opens on Thursday 22nd May at 6pm and all are welcome to attend.

The exhibition will run in Wexford Arts Centre from Friday 23rd May to Saturday 7th June 2014. The show then travels to the Void Arts Centre, Derry running from Saturday 21st June to Friday 11th July 2014.

For further information on the exhibition please contact Catherine Bowe, Visual Arts Manager on +353 (0)53 9123764 or email catherine@wexfordartscentre.ie.
