Wexford arts centre in association with Wexford County Council are delighted to partner with Fishamble: The New Play Company to invite applications from playwright’s resident in Wexford to take part in the Wexford Playwrights Studio 2026. The Wexford Playwrights Studio will be limited to four members to ensure adequate individual attention and exclusively dedicated to support, development and promotion of playwrights in the group. The studio group will have three mentoring meetings with Gavin Kostick, playwright, literary manager and dramaturg associated with Fishamble and Gavin will spend time reviewing developments of scripts between June and December 2026. Fishamble: The New Play company discovers, develops and produces new plays of national importance with a global reach. This is an opportunity to provide national development support to local playwrights with the hope of developing scripts to stage reading/production consideration level.
Our prior Wexford Playwrights Studio call out in association with Wexford County Council in 2020 was very successful despite being held behind closed doors during COVID and led to the support of eight playwrights including Joe Brennan, Dominic Palmer, Imelda Carroll, Jack Mathews, Megan O’Malley, Sheila Forsey, Hannah McNiven and Eoghan Rua Finn. The majority of plays developed by these playwrights as part of the Wexford Playwrights Studio got to be produced at full production level and led also to new work development for future consideration.
