At the Wexford Arts Centre

The earth rotates on its axis at 1600km per hour and revolves around the Sun at a speed of about 30 km per second. All the time, our atoms vibrate, our blood flows, there is growth and transience. Yet when we are still, we do not feel this substantial motion.

Through a monumental spatial drawing and a collaborative video work with dancer/choreographer Liadain Herriott, the work in this exhibition reflects on our relationship with time and motion…the experience of being human with a living body on this earth, moving through the measures of time.

Joanna Kidney was born in Dublin and currently lives in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Recent Solo Exhibitions include West Cork Arts Centre, Uillinn (2018), Galway Arts Centre (2017), Mermaid Arts Centre, Co. Wicklow (2015), RHA Atrium, Dublin (2013) and The Drawing Project, Co. Dublin (2012). She has exhibited widely in group shows in Ireland, France, Germany and the USA. She is the recipient of Arts Council Awards; Wicklow County Council Awards; an RHA Studio Award; a Ballinglen Arts Foundation Fellowship and a DIT Award of Excellence. Residencies include: Brigham Young University, Utah; Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Co. Mayo; The Guesthouse, Cork with the Tellurometer Project Collective. She is a founding member of Outpost Studios, Co. Wicklow, a member of the Drawing Suite and the Tellurometer Project Collective. Her work is included in the collections of AIB, Ballinglen Museum of Contemporary Art, The Central Bank, OPW, UCD and Dept of Environment, Northern Ireland.

Awarded ‘Best Performer’ by Dublin Fringe for her last solo Liminal, Liadain Herriott began her career in 2002 as a classical ballet dancer with the Cannes Jeune Ballet. In 2004 she relocated to Brussels where, through the influence and inspiration of surrounding teachers and artists, her work shifted from classical to contemporary. She has worked internationally for various choreographers and opera companies as well as for Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar.
Creating since 2009, her (award winning) work focuses on the use of the body as a vehicle for emotional expression, thus engaging in a manner of abstract storytelling. Her choreography has been performed at festivals in India, Latvia, Spain, Scotland, Greece, USA and Ireland, where she is from. She is currently based in Berlin where she is pursuing an MA entitled SoDA (Solo/Dance/Authorship) at the Universität der Künste.
