This
Christmas, surround yourself in the magical and eerie atmosphere of a very
special new telling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Adapted as a
radio play by actor/director Peter McCamley, this deliciously haunting tale
uniquely features live sound effects seamlessly executed by Foley Artist, Terry
Byrne, giving audiences the enthralling experience of listening to the
‘wireless’ while simultaneously watching the actors bring this Christmas
classic to life.
Starring
acclaimed Wexford playwright, actor and author, Billy Roche as Ebenezer
Scrooge, this new adaptation brings Dickens’ extraordinary world to life as
both a live theatrical performance and a radio drama created right before the
audiences’ eyes.
Five
actors, music and live sound effects transform the stage into the streets,
homes and shadows of Victorian London. Audiences will not only hear Scrooge’s
famous journey through Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, they will also see
the sounds effects being made, the characters transform into being and the
machinery of a radio drama brought vividly to life.
Alongside
Billy Roche, the company features Peter McCamley, Aileen Donohoe, Elizabeth
Rose-Browne, Lauren Corish-Wallace, and foley artist Terry Byrne. Between them,
the ensemble creates Dickens’ entire world of ghosts, families, revellers,
children and of course, Christmas Spirits.
Produced by
Ad Personam Cultural Events in collaboration with Wexford Arts Centre and
South East Radio, the live performances will also form part of a special recording
for broadcast on South East Radio at a later date, connecting the audience in
the theatre with listeners across the South East.
Funny,
atmospheric, ghostly and ultimately full of hope, this is Dickens’ Christmas
classic rediscovered through the magic of live performance and the imagination
of radio. Something for all ages.
